Statements like
this one from John Hutton, the Labour government's Secretary of State for Business, no longer surprise:
"Rather than questioning whether huge salaries are morally justified, we should celebrate the fact that people can be enormously successful in this country - to climb without limits."
Though I am reminded of the closing lines of
an old fairy story:
