The effect of this policy is that, for one quarter of the weekend - ordinary families, whose lives are not handicapped by self-imposed religious taboos, are excluded from this publicly funded amenity.Apparently, the pool's management are not responsible, they're just following council policy:-
Stories like this are reported in the right wing tabloid press. Often, upon further investigation, they turn out to be misrepresentations or fantasy. However, it really does appear to be the case that religious and gender apartheid swimming, on the rates, is being insisted upon by Hackney Council. I can't begin to tell you how pissed off I am.The same sort of thing has been happening in Bristol for some time.
David is right about stories like this turning up regularly in the press. But they can't all be based on fantasy and misrepresentation, can they?
Doesn't look that way to me.
